Breast cancer awareness is more important than ever, and this October, SAYS is leading a crucial effort with the launch of ‘The Pink Ribbon’ campaign. Running throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this campaign promises to shine a light on the inspiring stories of survivors, provide expert insights, and offer essential resources to support those affected by breast cancer.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in Malaysia, with alarming figures from the National Cancer Registry stating that 1 in 19 women will develop the disease in their lifetime. Each year, over 8,000 new cases are diagnosed, making up about 35% of all cancers affecting Malaysian women. Early detection is critical, as research indicates that breast cancer identified in its early stages sees a promising 90% survival rate. Therefore, raising awareness and encouraging early detection is of paramount importance—something ‘The Pink Ribbon’ campaign aims to achieve.
Under the leadership of Gowri Chitra Martin, Head of Content at SAYS, the campaign will unveil a series of powerful narratives from survivors, share expert interviews, and disseminate engaging video content alongside a plethora of helpful resources. Gowri Chitra Martin emphasized the importance of destigmatizing breast cancer in Malaysia, highlighting that by promoting open discussions, they hope to bridge the gap in understanding and remove the taboo associated with the disease.
In collaboration with Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA), Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA), Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway Cancer Centre, and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, ‘The Pink Ribbon’ serves not just as an awareness campaign but as a comprehensive resource hub for both individuals and families affected by the disease. The campaign ensures access to a wide array of information, from personal journeys of overcoming breast cancer to practical resources for financial aid and early detection screenings.
Throughout October, SAYS will roll out a wealth of content aimed at demystifying breast cancer, including explainers, financial aid resources, and guidelines on early detection screenings. The initiative will also feature expert insights from leading medical professionals discussing self-examinations, treatment options, and support systems for those grappling with breast cancer.
By visiting ‘The Pink Ribbon’ online hub, individuals can access a multitude of support networks and educational resources designed to empower, inform, and inspire. In uniting with various hospitals and NGOs, SAYS is committed to fostering meaningful conversations around breast cancer and promoting a community-oriented approach to battling this pervasive disease. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to engage with poignant stories and vital resources that could ultimately save lives.
