Passenger Disrupts SIA Flight, Removed After Verbal Abuse in HK

However, due to the disturbance caused by the passenger, the flight was delayed for over three hours, finally departing at 11:38 PM. Consequently, the flight arrived at Singapore’s Changi Airport at 2:48 AM on September 11th, instead of its scheduled arrival time of 12:35 AM.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) responded swiftly to the situation. According to an SIA spokesperson, the passenger’s behavior was assessed as unruly after repeated verbal abuse directed at the cabin crew before the plane took off. The crew decided, with the pilots, to offload the individual to maintain a safe and respectful environment for both the passengers and the crew. The man was ultimately handed over to local authorities at the Hong Kong International Airport.

Local media outlet HK01 reported that the passenger in question—a 71-year-old Singaporean man—requested alcoholic beverages before take-off but was refused, which may have contributed to his outburst. Despite the disruption, local authorities announced that no arrests were made in connection to this incident.

Singapore Airlines emphasized their company policy in response to the situation. Their spokesperson underscored that customer and staff safety is their utmost priority and reiterated the airline’s zero-tolerance stance towards abusive behavior against their employees. The airline also issued an apology to the passengers for any inconvenience caused by the unexpected delay.
