TEEN TOP’s Niel took a nostalgic journey back to the 2010s during a conversation with INFINITE’s Sungjong and KARA’s Gyuri on Gyuri’s YouTube channel. As the three veteran idols discussed their past experiences, the conversation veered into the topic of conflicts within idol groups. This sparked Niel’s candid recollection of a physical altercation with his members that left a literally lasting mark.
Sungjong, representing INFINITE, mentioned that their group never resorted to physical fights. “We just always told the other person up front if there was something bothering us,” he shared. This revelation seemed to position INFINITE as a more diplomatic crew than TEEN TOP, according to Niel’s account.
Niel admitted that things sometimes got out of hand with TEEN TOP, leading to petty fistfights. His story particularly shocked Gyuri and Sungjong when he confessed, “One time, I had to get stitches on my lip because I got hit in the face.”
The incident stemmed from an argument over a hair dryer. “One of the hyungs was using the hair dryer on their feet. But then I came out of the shower and took the dryer from him, saying, ‘Let me dry my hair’. He got pissed off, and we got into a fight,” Niel recounted. During this scuffle, the group leader stepped in, favoring the hyung by punching Niel to break up the fight. This blow was so forceful that it resulted in Niel needing medical attention.
Despite the injury, Niel had to maintain a public appearance. He humorously recalled telling his manager that he “fell on the stairs” to explain the swollen lip. “We had ‘Inkigayo’ the next day,” Niel noted, emphasizing the challenges faced by idols who have to perform despite personal mishaps.
The anecdote provides a rare glimpse into the sometimes tumultuous dynamics within K-pop groups and the resilience required to maintain their professional commitments. Niel’s recollection, alongside the moderate reactions from Gyuri and Sungjong, highlights the stark contrast in how different groups handle internal conflicts, offering fans a deeper understanding of their favorite idols’ lives behind the scenes.
