Kangwon Land Expands Casino Operations in South Korea

Kangwon Land, the only casino in South Korea that allows local residents to gamble, has just received a major approval that promises to elevate its footprint and offerings significantly. The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism granted this gaming giant the permit to expand its existing facilities, a move that marks a notable development in the country’s gaming landscape.

According to her article, the expansion will increase the casino’s operating area from 14,512.68 square meters to a sprawling 20,260.68 square meters. The expansion doesn’t stop at floor space. Kangwon Land is set to augment its gaming inventory significantly. The casino currently hosts 1,560 gaming devices, including 200 tables and 1,360 machines. With the new expansion, these numbers will rise to 1,860 devices, comprising 250 tables and 1,610 machines. This bolstered capacity is anticipated to attract a wider audience, both locally and internationally, enhancing Kangwon Land’s appeal as a top-tier gaming destination.

For the casino’s foreigner-only zone, exciting changes are also on the horizon. The space will no longer be exclusive to international guests but will expand to include permanent residents, broadening its customer base. Alongside this shift, betting limits are poised for a significant increase—from a current maximum of KRW300,000 ($224) to a whopping KRW30 million ($22,400), a change that is likely to entice high-rollers.

While Kangwon Land has received the green light for this expansion, some details remain fluid. The completion date is yet to be pinned down, and adjustments to the number of gaming devices may occur depending on the operating environment at the time of expansion. Additionally, the increased betting limits await further legislative adjustments in the Tourism Promotion Act Enforcement Rules, details of which will be announced once finalized.
